BCCSC's Professional Training for Young Teachers

  23 young teachers and school leaders attended the review meeting of BCCSC's first professional training for young teachers was held at Sipeilan International Conference Center on the 5 th of December.
              Ms. Xue Mei, the General Teaching Supervisor, chaired the meeting and reported the preliminary work of the training. She restated the missions of the training. “Beside the positional training and teaching review internal and external the school,” she pointed out, “our young teachers should research and develop the school curriculum to improve positional ability.” She stressed study through work, that is, our work and what we have to study lies throughout the procedure of teaching. The goal of our training this time is to improve the basic teaching skills of our young teachers. Our young teachers had participated 6 periods of demonstration classes, and evaluate their own classes with the help of video-recording activities.
              6 teachers who made the demonstration classes gave special speeches to share their opinions on teaching at the meeting. Mr. Han Zesheng focused on the profession languages we used in mathematics teaching. He said that math teachers should use accurate, clear, and concise expressions in appropriate speed to build the positive interaction between the students and the teachers. By sharing her personal experience and understanding, Ms. Liu Yinfen suggested our young teachers to devote to work with strong professional responsibility. She said a teacher should not only keep on study but also try to understand and get close to the students. Mr. Lu Derun revealed his views about the teaching in his typical humorous language. He believed that profound knowledge could be conveyed with easy and popular words. “ Teacher can bring permanent fascination to the chalk and the blackboard.” He said, “What is very important is the plan of the instruction.” Ms. Li Daqi probed the existing problems of our English teaching. She said we didn't have adequate information in our English teaching, and we couldn't give instruction to teenagers with the method of teaching babies. She found that BCCSC's young teachers of English were well qualified, and the key problem was their understanding of the teaching. She said it is necessary to have intensive reading about certain lessons and upgrade some of our teaching to the level of cultural study. The other two teachers, Miss Li Hongyan and Mr. Wang Youcai, shared their teaching experiences at the meeting.
              The discussion came after the experience introduction. All the participants actively joined in and brought up their ideas. They have the same conclusion that the training is efficient. With the demonstration classes and the seminars, our young teachers saw their own disparity in teaching compared to the teaching of our senior teachers, especially the weakness of the basic skills, such as tedious, dull, and high-speed language usage, lack of appeal with plain tones, inappropriate plan of layout on the blackboard, and lack of creativity in instruction plan. Good teachers have one of some of obvious advantages and capabilities in these aspects and form their own styles.
              Principal Wang Benzhong gave an instructional speech by recalling his over 40 years experience as a teacher. He introduced wonderful evidences of famous teachers one by one. “ The life value of a teacher is in class.” He said, “What a teacher pursue in all his/her life is to reach the summit of teaching realm.”
 Another focus of the meeting was Teachers' Professional Development, a report given by Dr. Zhu Xudong, who is a professor from Institute of Education, Beijing Norman University. The report has five headings – development of knowledge, development of capability, development of professional moral, building new classes, and internal development.
Mr. Tao Wei, BCCSC's advisor, and former CPC secretary made the closing speech. He passionately praised that our young teachers had the unique spirit of BCCSC, which is in accordance with the progressing of the world. He encouraged the young teachers working hard with their creativity and making more achievements from their daily teaching career.
