A successful accomplishment of the activity, Small envoys walk to world
On Sep. 25 in 2008, 5 BCCSC students and 1 teacher set off from school, participating in the activity Small envoys walk to the world, which is a new type of the Summer Camp organized by the UNESCO. On Oct. 6 in 2008, all the students and teacher came back safely and punctually. They successfully accomplished their 12 days’ visit to the USA.
The opening ceremony of the activity Small Envoys walk to world was held in BCCSC Lecture Theater at 2:30 pm on Sep. 23 in 2008.The vice president and the secretary of the UNESCO Club as well as the reporters from different multi-media presented. All the members gathered together on the school campus and took pictures soon after the opening ceremony, which helped them to have a better understanding of a committee. In addition, the group leader invited a famous CCTV reporter to give the students a special training in develop their interview skills. All in all, the students as well as the teachers got well prepared for their visit to the USA.
The students and the teacher felt very excited but reluctant to leave when they saw Principal Meng Xuejun and Mr Cao Xiaopeng, who is in charge of the Youth League Committee, seeing them off at the south gate of BCCSC. Though it is not the first time the fly abroad, a strange feeling occurred to them. They said they were really appreciated the encouragements from the school principal and their dear teachers.
Their visit began soon after their arrival at the Sin Francisco Airport at 8:00 am on Sep 25.They had a wonderful sightseeing in Sin Francisco, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Fisherman’s Port and the famous Stanford University, which arouse the students’ interest in studying hard. In addition, during the 12-day stay in the USA, the students as well as the teachers had friendly exchange activities with the River Hill High School students and teachers, interviewed the vice secretary in the UN, vice president of the World Bank, Associate Director of Minority Business Development Agency in US Department of Commerce, Associate Deputy Secretary of US Department of Labor and the American swimmer Michael Phelps’ mother. Besides the visit, the students were also provided a lot of opportunities to learn more about American history and cultural. They were lucky enough to visit the Independence Museum, Arts Museum, Natural Museum, Lincoln Memorial, the Library of Congress, the new building of the Chinese Embassy. The experience was so exciting that the students took a lot of pictures and wrote down their interview notes and feelings to record the unforgettable moment.
Generally speaking, such activity offers the students opportunities to develop their social acceptability and to learn more about American history, economy, custom and culture. It also helped our students to open their eyes and broaden their mind, to increase their knowledge, and to build up friendship, strengthened the cultural exchange and enhance their responsibility. During this trip, students benefited from oral English practice and trainings in independent thinking, problem solving, and they had a better understanding of success and the keys to succeed. After the activity, students realized the importance of learning English well and hard work. At the same time, they learned a lot from American students as well as those successful people, such as love, diligence, determination, ambition, responsibility and dedication.
In a word, it is an unforgettable and meaningful activity.
