The teachers and students visited Grand View Garden and studied 《Dream of Red Mansions》

On October 30th, 2009, the students of Beijing Concord College visited the Grand View Garden Theatre in Beijing to see the play,” Dream of Red Mansions.”


BCCSC is a Chinese Canadian Highschool which, in order to graduate students with a global perspective and international understanding, devotes much of its time to educational reform and innovative teaching methods.


In our Chinese Language class our school recently arranged an elective class to see the literary masterpiece, Dream of Red Mansions. BCCSC organizes a visit every year to the Grand View Garden Theatre for the purpose of strengthening traditional, literary education.


More than 300 students and teachers from Grade 12 visited this year and participated in an activity called, Walking Into The Grand View Garden Studying Dream of Red Mansions.


The famous literary master, Zhou Jianlin, gave the students an inspired and insightful lecture. Zhou Jianlin analyzed, Dream of Red Mansions, in detail for the students. He discussed information about the author, details of the plot and the literary signifigance of such a famous play.


In the afternoon, the students were divided into several groups and invited to experience the tragedy of Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu.Further research on this aspect of the play was assigned for homework when the students returned to BCCSC.


This teaching method not only improves the ability of students to understand literature but also develops their ability to communicate with others effectively. It makes for quality education and has many advantages when compared to more traditional methods of instructionAll the students showed an intense interest in this method of learning.


BCSC has a close relationship with The Grand View Garden. Over the years there have been many innovations and improvements in the way we learn in conjunction with this venue. Much attention was received from more than 10 media personnel and stations which took part this year and a number of photos were published in the Beijing Times.
