Canada Prime Minister Paul Martin regarding educational cooperation between China and Canada

People's Web Kamloops , BC Canada April 1 st , reported by the journalist Chen Te'an : Canada Prime Minister Paul Martin arrived at the newly founded Thompson Rivers University in Kamtoops BC . The PM met Rodger Barslet , the principal of the university, Cindy McLead , the international executive, and Dr. Francis Pang, the director of BCCSC as well as some leaders of the local community. He extended congratulation on the founding of Thompson Rivers University and the new international building. He stressed the importance of and support for the educational cooperation between Canada and China . The Prime Minister showed in his speech his pride in Canadian education. He encouraged Canadian education to face the world to improve the internationalization of education, and to serve the international students, who he welcomed to study in Canada . Further, he also encouraged Canadian teachers and students to go aboard to learn about different education systems and cultures of other nations.                        

In the meeting Minster Martin noted the picture in the executive Cindy McLead's office, which he had taken with Chinese Prime Minster Wen Jiabao . This led him to inquire about the progress of the Canadian-Sino education cooperation agreement signed with Minister Wen . Dr. Francis Pang, the Canadian director of BCCSC, elaborated on the Canada-Sino cooperation relating to the international school. Dr. Pang said that over 3000 graduates from BCCSC had come to Canada to further student in recent years, and that the Sino-Canada “International school” to be located at Liang Ma Qiao in Beijing had achieved key improvement. Prime Minster Martin was pleased to hear it and wished much success for the Sino-Canada international school in the future.

The new Thompson River University is a comprehensive university combing Gabriel University , which had 35 years history, and the Open College of British Columbia. It is now the fourth largest university in British Columbia .

The celebration of the found of the Thompson River University and it's international building was held yesterday. Gordon Campbell, the Premier of British Columbia, Steven Harpen , the leader of Federal Conservation party, Zhang Xingfang , and official the provincial education department, Tian Chunyan , the Consul General for China in Vancouver and over 100 international guests from China, India and other countries joined the celebration of incorporation.
