CCSC Grade 11 Enhanced Program in Canada

Principal's letter from one of the Enhanced Program schools;

Dear Andy,

As the semester draws to a close and our Chinese exchange students prepare to return to China, I think I would be remiss if I did not let you know how pleased and proud I am of your students: Dang Yi, Ding Tianqi, Feng Shijing, Shan Ying, Shen Yuwen, Xie Chenpeng and Xue Shu. While at Bathurst High School all seven students have focused on their school work and have done very well in their courses. They have been role models as students both in the classroom and within the community. They have embraced every activity that we organized for them with enthusiasm and appreciation. They have made their mark on our school and we will certainly miss them when they leave. Last week at our annual Awards Night, your students were recognized with a small moment from the school. All seven were called up on stage to receive a medal. The audience rose in a spontaneous standing ovation showing their affection and respect. It was a very touching moment.

This is the first time that Bathurst High School has been a part of the Spring Enhancement Program. We were only able to take part due to the willingness of your school to try teaching the Chinese courses via distance technology. In speaking with one of the students, I asked what he thought of learning this way. He said it was not like having a teacher in the classroom but that it was still a good experience. His honesty and insight confirm what we already suspected. However, I believe the experiment was a success and that the success of this methodology was due in no small part to the students themselves.

Your students have enriched our school and I hope that in some way, we have enriched their lives as well. I can only imagine what special opportunities lay ahead for these students. They are great representatives of your school, their families and their country. I look forward to the next opportunity for our two schools to work together.

In closing I would like to extend greetings to Mr. Meng, Charles and all of the teachers at BCCSC. As a result of my involvement with BCCSC over the years and my visit to China last summer, I will always hold your school, its people and your country in my heart.

Regards,

Colleen Ramsey
