Primary School Students Visited Tongzhou XiYinli Succulent Plants Garden

In order to respond to the call of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, who emphasizes comprehensive social activities, Beijing Concord School organized students of Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 to visit Tongzhou XiYinli Succulent Plants Garden on April 15th, 2016.  This visit provided students with a variety of things to study.

The students of our primary school left school at 8:00 a.m. In the school bus, under the guidance of their teachers, they discussed the aim and the tasks of the visit. Some students said, “Our Nature teacher taught us to love plants, which can make our environment become more beautiful.” Some students remarked, “Our Moral Education teachers told us that we should learn to protect plants and cultivate our sense of responsibility.” Some students mentioned, “Our Chinese teacher asked us to carefully observe the plants and write diaries after this visit to enhance our patience and language ability.” Some students added, “Our Polymer Clay teacher told us that we can DIY clay vases and raise succulent plants in them, which can improve our sense of beauty and artistic innovation.” Some students mentioned, “Our Math teacher will teach us to measure how much our plants have grown.”

The students were so engaged in their heated discussion that they didn’t notice their arrival at the Tongzhou XiYinli Succulent Plants Garden. They were excited and well-organized. Students’ favorite activity was planting their succulent plants by themselves. From that moment, they took the responsibility of taking care their own plants.

At the end of the happy and meaningful visit, every student carried their own plants carefully. They protected their plants just like parents protect children. Classroom teaching is not as profound as practice. The students not only felt love, but also understood the deepness of the feelings of love; we believe that the students can feel how much their parents love them. This social activity ended on a high note.
