BCCSC’s Mobilization Meeting for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award was Successfully Completed

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which was created in 1956, is recognized by many international organizations and universities from all over the world. BCCSC is the first school of mainland which joined in this award. As so far, almost 100 students has applied and received the awards. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award demand students to devote themselves to four aspects: Community Service, Skills, Physical Fitness and Outdoor Adventure. According to “The Work Plan of Students’ Administrative Office” and these requires of this award, the Students’ Administrative Office cooperated with a professional company to organize the “Outdoor Training” for the students who applied the awards. Students who won the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award will have more opportunities for entering into international universities. It helps greatly for students who won the award to apply for international companies or organizations.

“The Lecture on International Youth for Outdoor Adventure” was held from 16:30 to 19:30 at the Lecture Theatre on April 29, 2016. Mr. Tian Zhenzhou, Executive Principal; Ms. Ma Xiaokui, Director of the Students’ Administrative Office; Mr. Ian George Devlin, the responsible teacher for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award ; and Ms. Meng Jun attended the lecture.

This lecture was hosted by Grade 11 Supervisor. Mr. Zhang, manager of Oriental Xinsen Outward Bound Training Company, was the main speaker of the lecture. Mr. Tian Zhenzhou introduced the meaning of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award; pointed out this award has three features: High Level, Comprehensive Content, and Wide Recognition; encouraged students to plan their high school lives; and asked students to participated more  public benefit activities.

Mr. Zhang introduced the meaning and the route of the Outward Bound, Tianchiyu Gorge in Huairou District, the survival techniques and methods, and how to use the equipment during the Outward Bounds, for example: How to choose the camp, how to put up the tent, how to tell direction,  how deal with animal bites and so on.

At the end of the lecture, Mr. Tian Zhenhzou introduced the detailed date and procedures. Students communicated with the trainers.

BCCSC required all students before graduation to win at least the Bronze Award of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. At the same time, students who won the Gold or Silver Award will get the scholarship.
