BCS Students’ Exchange in America
Four BCS’s Students had a month’s exchange in Oak Ridge School, in America during October 20 to November 20, 2018. After about 13 hours’ trip, the students arrived in Los Angeles.
Part 1 Campus Life
After one day’s rest, our students began to study. Four students from the Oak Ridge School were the partners of the four Chinese students.
Our students had the authentic American classes and experienced the American culture. Sometimes they sat on the chairs, sometimes they sat on the floor. They communicated with the local students and gained a lot.
Our exchange students made new friends and had lunch with the American students. Their oral English improved a lot. They could communicate with the American students.
Every morning, the American teachers and students greeted enthusiastically to our Chinese students. Our students were attractive to the American teachers’ relaxing teaching styles and easy going personalities.
The Oak Ridge School attached importance to physical training. Everyone went to run or play on the ground fields for 15 minutes. After the morning exercise, the students stood in a line to the classroom.
The Oak Ridge School’s schedule was 8:30a.m.-3:00pm. Every period was 48 minutes. For primary school, their Math, Reading, Science and Social Study were taught by the same teacher. For middle school, different subject was taught by different teachers. There was teacher’ name and grade on each classroom’s door.





















Due to the temperature, students had lunch outside the classroom. When they finish their lunch, they clean their tables. The following pictures are their lunch.
The students enjoyed every day at Oak Ridge School.
Part 2 Culture
After one week’s studying, our exchange students visited Disney. There were eight theme parks in Disney. They met some cosplays, including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White and seven dwarfs.
Our exchange students visited Hollywood Universal Studios. There were many classic programs. The students were excited. It was an unforgettable memory for them.
Our exchange students visited the California Science Center, which was a palace for science. They were curious about the labs and science classes. They participated in the different science labs.
Our exchange students visited Getty Center, which was located in Santa Monica. It was designed by Mr. Richard Meier, a famous architect. There were about 50000 collections, which were attractive to our students.
Our exchange students visited University of California, which was located in the Los Angeles. It was praised as the cradle for talents. The scenery on campus were attractive to our students.
Part 3 Festival
Halloween was coming. The students prepared a lot for the festival. Teachers and students bought pumpkins, costumes and candies. They were very excited.
In the morning, everyone went to school with fancy costumes and had a parade on campus.
Every student had creative ideas. They wore fancy costumes and participated in the Halloween party. They had a lot fun.






























Our exchange students, the American teachers and local parents of homestay took a group photos. This activity was well organized.
In the evening, our exchange students celebrated Halloween with the homestay family and made the pumpkin lanterns. They made different and cute pumpkin lanterns. It was very interesting.
Our exchange students wore costumes and knocked on the doors, calling “Trick or treat.” They had an authentic and fun Halloween which they never had before in China.
Part 4 Homestay
The parents in America looked after our students. They were so patient and nice to our exchange students. Our students communicated with parents well. They enjoyed the life in America family.
The homestay family provided a variety of food for our students. The local western food was very delicious. Sometimes our exchange students also participated in cooking. They loved the homestay.
Part 5 Homestay
One month’s studying in the America broadened our exchange students’ horizons. They learned how to think from different views to solve the problems. This was a special and fantastic experience for them.
At the beginning of this exchange, our students were shy and quiet. At the end of this exchange, they dared to express themselves and participated in the teaching activities actively. They changed their study habits and gained a lot.
