"Taiyuan late Autumn" -- one of the Impressions of Shanxi Studies in BCCSC

On October 18, 2019, the students in the eleventh year of our school, riding the "Fuxing" train, crossed the mountains and rivers of the motherland, came to Taiyuan, Shanxi, which has a long cultural history and longed for it, and began the "impression of Shanxi" research trip. It was already dusk to arrive in Taiyuan, but the students are still in high spirits. After completing the research assignments assigned by various subjects, the students were still excitedly discussing the upcoming study itinerary.

On the morning of the 19th, we left Taiyuan for the first stop: Liu Hulan Memorial Hall, Yunzhouxi Village, Wenshui County, Shanxi Province. Liu Hulan, who took part in the revolution at a young age, was only 15 when she was killed in 1947. Her deeds quickly spread all over the country. Mao Zedong wrote "the greatness of life and the glory of death" for her. The memorial was completed in January 1957, the 10th anniversary of Liu Hulan's murder. On the memorial square in the center of the memorial hall is a 12-meter-high white marble carving with Mao Zedong's inscription on the front of the tablet. Behind the monument is the Liu Hulan Museum of Revolutionary deeds, which contains some relics of martyrs, as well as paintings, sculptures and documents related to the lives of martyrs. In the last mausoleum of the martyrs stands a white marble statue of Liu Hulan, surrounded by pines and cypresses. The layout of the whole memorial is open and solemn, and it is an ideal base for carrying out "patriotic education for young people." With admiration, the students waved the national flag and sang "me and my motherland" in front of the memorial square, paying high tribute to the hero, who was younger than they were at that time. The children sang across the blue sky and sprinkled with golden sunshine.

After lunch, teachers and students went to Zhangbi Village, also known as "Zhangbi Ancient Castle". The castle made full use of the geographical advantages of retreat according to the mountains, difficult to attack and easy to defend, and built an ancient tunnel that was 3000 meters long and had both attack and defense on the ground. Following in the footsteps of the tour guide, we went deep into the tunnel 15 meters above the ground, built in the ancient Sui Dynasty, amazed at the greatness of the wisdom of the ancients. Zhangbi Castle is a relatively rare pocket town in the world, its area is only 0.12 square kilometers, but it has a complete urban form and has a good military defense function. It combines ancient castle tunnels, palaces and temples, military religion, folk history as one, in addition, there are small bell and drum towers, smooth transportation network, numerous religious places and so on. Zhangbi ancient castle is famous at home and abroad for its "ancient temple god Buddha Yi, Ming castle secret road strange". The tour guide carefully and patiently answered all kinds of questions we asked, so that we learned more rich and vivid knowledge of literature and history in the wonders of the great beauty of the motherland.

Heroic deeds, extraordinary scenery, we continue to "read ten thousand books, travel ten thousand miles," the journey, Pingyao ancient city in the night gently hugged us, looking forward to tomorrow to lift the veil of this beautiful ancient city, to explore the beautiful late autumn in Shanxi!
