The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award
爱丁堡公爵国际奖 The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award
The Duke of Edinburgh International Award Program was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1956. Though originally for boys, the program was extended to girls 2 years later. Because of the unique flexibility of the Award, it was ideally suited to different cultures and societies, allowing countries all over the world to adopt it. By the 1980s, the Award had been operated internationally in 140 different countries.
In 2011, BCCSC joined this organization for evaluating this award. Our school was the first one to participate and introduce this award into china. Up to May, 2022, 304 students have won the award, including 21 gold awards, 50 silver awards, and 233 bronze awards. They successfully met the requirements of four aspects with their great efforts: Learn new skills, increase their fitness levels, cultivate a sense of adventure, volunteer in their community, and work to develop resilience and confidence. They have set a good example for other students in our school.

For the most prestigious Gold Award, BCCSC Grace completed her Gold Award in June 2022. Grace said ’I Have won the copper, silver and gold awards at school. I have seen the chilling stars outside the tent. I climbed the mountains after rains, and travelled across the scalding desert. I was impressed most deeply by the activity in which I won the gold award. Due to the COVID-2019 epidemic, we spontaneously organized the “BCCSC Anti-epidemic Sale and Donation of goods for charity” activity, and took active part in the community volunteering activity to fight against the epidemic, in which I joined the whole process as the “consultant” from pre-fight rehearsal, sale and donation of goods for charity. I am proud of myself. ’
G12 student Fiona is now working on her Gold Awards. She said that’ This prize gives me the chance to explore and develop my leadership, communication ability and self-challenging courage, and makes me capable of defeating the fear of heights and completing VIA FERRATA all by myself.Besides, I am also proud of myself for not only the achievement I made, but also for helping those in need and cultivating many other hobbies during the volunteering period. ’
