Western Business Etiquette
Beijing Concord College of Sino-Canada (BCCSC) recently hosted a unique event where Alessia Moretti, Associate Professor at the University of Caesarea, was invited by the Swiss Education Group (SEG) to give students a fascinating experience of Western business etiquette. The Associate Professor holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Tourism and a Master's Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Business Management, as well as 11 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She also serves as a representative of EuroCHRIE, the international trade association of Eta Sigma Delta, adding to the professionalism and authority of the program.
During the course, students studied several aspects of Western business etiquette in depth. First, the course covered the customs and norms of seating arrangements, toasting etiquette, and tipping to help students understand and respect Western social etiquette. Secondly, the course covered the complicated meal sequences and how to cope with them. Students learned to handle the complicated meal procedures in formal occasions with ease and improved their social skills. The course also focused on the use of cutlery, enabling students to master the use of various cutlery in Western dining situations and increasing their confidence in international interactions.
In addition, the hands-on component of the program was impressive. Several students actively participated in the napkin folding art activity, not only gaining practical experience, but also demonstrating their creativity and skills. This event was not only about learning about Western food etiquette, but also an opportunity for cultural exchange between the East and the West. Students not only learned new knowledge, but also experienced intercultural communication. Such an international program provides a rare international exchange platform for the students of the school. The event injected new vitality into BCCSC and gave students a deeper understanding of the diversity of the world, opening the door to a globalized society. The students showed great enthusiasm and motivation, demonstrating an open mind and international perspective.
The success of this event not only strengthened the international education of the students, but also enriched the partnership between BCCSC and SEG. This cooperation better integrates the concept of international education into teaching and provides students with a broader platform for growth and more opportunities.
