Annual Terry Fox Run

With the end of the first school week BCCSC’s 10th anniversary year, activities began in earnest to once again involve the staff and students in raising funds for and awareness of cancer and the research into its cure.

We were all spurred on, and continue to be so, by the efforts of a young Canadian teenager who, in 1980, attempted to cross Canada to raise funds and peoples’ awareness of the dreaded disease. While he did not complete his “Marathon of Hope” his effort has made him an inspiration to people worldwide. Both young and old, have, in the past and present, in their own way, made their own “Marathon of Hope” and have helped and are helping, in Terry’s memory to complete that journey.

Here at BCCSC, to raise funds this year, Canadian teachers had their heads shaved and had an up close and personal tasting of our cafeteria’s pies.Students of BCCSC in grades 10, 11& 12 purchased pizzas.Last year’s graduates donated the proceeds from their May graduation prom.As well, BCCSC teaching and non-teaching staff generously contributed.

As in past years, the chairman of the board of directors of BCCSC, Dr. Francis Pang most generously matched the money raised by the BCCSC family with a contribution of his own.He is indeed the embodiment of the caring and sharing spirit that reflects who we are.

Next year we look forward to even greater success and will be looking to more actively engage our parents.Continuing support from all the stakeholders at BCCSC will ensure that Terry’s legacy will live on.
